GLASURIT IS PUSHING the benefits of its Glasurit Repair Shop concept as a smart way for bodyshops to increase business and create new profit centres within repair premises.

In the latest edition of its Gloss Magazine, Glasurit says bodyshops could offer fast, dependable repairs as a value-added service at a reasonable cost.

Spot repair work targets non-insurance claim work, seizing the ability to repair small scratches and dents because they cannot be claimed through insurance.

Some repairs take only 40 minutes to repair and customers are attracted to this. The repairs are inexpensive and can be carried out while the customer is shopping or doing other work. Glasurit said that repairs up to three cms in diameter avoided the need to clear coat an entire panel.

The article stated that Smart Repair is highly profitable and it might also add such repairs as alloy wheels, dash and trim repairs and windscreens. Glasurit have quoted Newcastle, NSW bodyshop Klooster's that started spot repairs five years ago.

GM Body Repair and Spot Repair division, Joe Talop said the business had been a smart move for his shop. "It is a win-win for us, we get great business from this service , quicker turnaround times and it is a low cost venture."

Glasurit said that one painter could complete between five and six spot repairs in a day in one bay and it was best suited for cars less than five years old. Glasurit said it can assist Australian and New Zealand bodyshops to launch this new initiative.

Advertising can assist and grow the spot repair process business, such as cars that are about to be sold and need to look spick and span. Dealers are often good targets for this service as they have traded cars that may need some minor repairs. The service, the paint company says, is also suitable for light commercial vehicles.

The concept of the Glasurit Spot Repair Process has proven solid returns for bodyshops in Australia and New Zealand and the company is assisting potential installers with identifying equipment needed and advice on how to start the business.

Staff training is part of this to ensure the business takes all the right decisions during set-up and management.
