Arizona-based Local Motors has produced the world's first 3D printed car – that can actually drive!
The Strati debuted at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) in Chicago in September 2014, and is the first battery-powered, two-seater passenger car. It is comprised of 40 different components, with the body and chassis created using a giant 3D printer. The tyres, seats, wheels, battery, wiring, suspension, electric motor and window shield were all made using conventional methods.
The vehicle took 44 hours to assemble, taking place at the six-day IMTS. It will have a top-speed of 40mph and a battery range of 120-150 miles. The company hopes to offer it for between £11,000 to £18,000 ($18,000 to $30,000).
