The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will introduce a range of new active safety features and advanced four-wheel drive technology that will feature on a Mitsubishi model for the first time.
The range-topping Pajero Sport Exceed will have the latest in advanced safety systems including Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS) and Multi-around view Monitor System (MMS).
Mitsubishi Motors’ Blind Spot Warning system uses ultrasound sensors located in the rear bumper to detect vehicles near the rear quarters, alerting the driver through an illuminated symbol in the driver’s mirror and via an audible alert.
The Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System reduces the chance and severity of hitting obstacles when the driver mistakenly presses the accelerator when stationary or at speeds of up to 10km/h.
The system uses ultrasonic sensors to detect obstructions in front of or behind the vehicle and will regulate engine power while emitting an audible warning.
The Multi-around view Monitor System displays a bird’s eye image of the vehicle’s perimeter using four cameras to assist the driver when reversing or parking the car.
Pajero Sport’s all-new 8-speed automatic transmission is the first of its kind fitted to a Mitsubishi vehicle and has been specially developed for Pajero Sport.
The new 8-speed transmission’s wide gear range and close gear ratios help Pajero Sport achieve responsive acceleration and low fuel consumption.
A new Off-road Mode terrain selection system is another first for Mitsubishi, developed exclusively for Pajero Sport.
Fitted standard across the range, the Off-road Mode selector provides four driving modes; gravel, mud/snow, sand and rock.
The Pajero Sport is the first Mitsubishi model to have Hill Descent Control, which maintains the vehicle at a constant speed by controlling the brakes to match conditions when the vehicle is off-road and going down a steep gradient at speeds between 2km/h and 20km/h.
An Electric Parking Brake, another first for Mitsubishi, is standard across the Pajero Sport range and frees up additional room in the cockpit. The car also received a five star ANCAP safety rating. SUV's traditionally haven't fared so well in the ANCAP ratings but this week the Pajero, Auid Q7 and Honda HR-V all achieved a five-star rating.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia Director Marketing Tony Principe said the host of Mitsubishi firsts demonstrate the brand’s renewed emphasis on cutting edge technology.
“Pajero Sport introduces a significant step forward in advanced safety technology and performance features, adding new levels of sophistication not typically found in this segment.”
“Pajero Sport represents a new-generation of Mitsubishi SUVs with luxury, high-tech safety features and superior comfort while still delivering the class-leading four-wheel drive capability and great on-road performance expected of a serious off-road vehicle.”
The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be available at Australian Mitsubishi dealers from Monday 7 December, 2015.
