Tammy O’Donnell and Jeremy Wilks have created a safe and inclusive working environment.
The company’s commitment to employee safety, well-being, and professional development impressed the judges. Partnering with MTA NSW, Tammy and Jeremy have spearheaded a comprehensive safety program, establishing a forward-thinking safety vision framework that emphasises clear communication, teamwork, and accountability.
Their approach to safety is methodical, ensuring each worker understands the safety protocols required to perform their tasks safely. Through open dialogue, they keep the team informed about safety initiatives and business updates. Employees are not only valued for their contributions but are also aware of how their roles fit into the larger organisational goals.
The company’s recognition and reward program is another cornerstone of its outstanding workplace culture. Designed to celebrate individual achievements, this program publicly acknowledges employees’ hard work and dedication. Team members are awarded Certificates of Recognition and can expect further benefits, such as expense-covered dinners. This framework promotes a positive culture where employees feel appreciated and motivated, which directly contributes to both physical and mental well-being.
Because downtime is important, Tammy and Jeremy have also invested in a recreational area where team members can unwind, building camaraderie beyond work hours. The organisation’s community engagement extends beyond the workplace through fundraising for local causes like Ronald McDonald House and sponsorship of local rugby clubs, Mosman and Forestville, fostering strong community ties and employee pride in their workplace’s community contributions.
Continuous professional development is integral to the company’s ethos. This culture of growth has supported the organisation’s expansion over the past year, increasing staff from 15 to 18 and promoting internally. For example, a detailer was promoted to parts manager, and four apprentices were onboarded, reflecting Tammy and Jeremy’s commitment to career development.
The implementation of a four-day compressed workweek in April 2024 demonstrates their dedication to work-life balance, which rewards existing employees and serves as a valuable attraction for new talent. Safety remains paramount, with the team’s industry-specific safety framework consisting of over 100 comprehensive WHS policies and procedures, all aligned with regulatory standards. The framework, developed in consultation with stakeholders, includes a WHS Risk Register for high-risk tasks, ensuring proactive safety management.
Tammy O’Donnell and Jeremy Wilks have set a remarkable standard in workplace excellence. Their leadership has fostered a safe, supportive, and empowering environment, making them well-deserving recipients of the Best Workplace Award.
