The Car Craft Group network prides itself of bringing on the next generation and has been running its network Apprentice of the Year awards for x years. With nearly 150 members the group employs in excess of 400 apprentices.

Car Craft CEO Peter McMahon said: “These awards are a great opportunity to recognise apprentices whose exceptional effort make them stand out from the crowd. It is crucial to highlight the talents and contribution of the next generation.”

The awards have been judged by Paul Wake of Octoral for the last two years and each of the nominees underwent a stringent interview process “We look for more than are they just good at their work. It’s about recognising apprentices who show a passion for the trade but also have something else that sets them apart. We’re looking for the full package of characteristics that mark an apprentice out for being a future leader.”

There were winners for each state and then an overall body repair and refinish technician of the year chosen from those state winners.

This year’s body repair technician winner was Brenton Law who was in his second year, from Mount Pleasant Crash Repairs in Adelaide. As well as progressing well in his trade, Law is also active in the community. He was brought up by his grandparents and in addition to helping them he also goes shopping for elderly people in the community assists them where he. Mount Pleasant Crash Repairs owner Tom Campaniello said: “The apprentice awards is a comprehensive program. Winning the award has meant the world to Brenton and has given him so much more confidence. It can be daunting for young apprentices when they are used to having mentors and following instructions. Not only did he receive the award but he was also featured in the local paper. He has really been performing on another level since his win.”

Taylah Ladd a first year refinish apprentice from Northside Panel & Paint in Canberra was the overall refinish winner. She was chosen for her enthusiastic dedication to learning and being a respectful team player. In addition to her success in the workplace she is also actively involved in her local community. Northside Panel & Paint owner Lucy Warrener said: "She was only a first year but winning the award gave her something to feel proud of. She continues to step up and learn."

The other state winners were: Montana Stubbings-Robson from Flow Autobody in Queensland; Jack Kelly from Bluett Bodyworks in NSW; Mitchell Payne from Jandakot Accident Repairs in WA and Max Bruno from Flagstaff Autobody Repair Specialists in Victoria.
