Uber faces a landmark legal case following the death of Elaine Herzberg who was struck and killed by an Uber autonomous vehicle in Arizona on March 18.
Herzberg's daughter has retained Glendale personal injury law firm Bellah Perez after the incident sparked an international conversation about the safety of self-driving cars.
The firm questioned the legal implications of the industry and where the accident liability with self-driving technology stood.
Bellah Perez partner Cristina Perez Hesano said that her firm believed that the case impacted on citizens in the state and that they felt a need to represent the case.
“As an Arizona law firm, we feel a special responsibility to represent this case as it directly impacts our fellow Arizonans sharing the road with these machines.”
Following the incident, Uber reportedly suspended its self-driving program and is investigating the factors that contributed to the accident.
