The 3M Speedglas Welding Helmet G5-02 features a curved auto-darkening welding lens, considered to be the world's first. Since 3M released the auto-darkening welding helmet in 1981 development has been continuing, with the Speedglas curved glass technology researched for 20 years.

The helmet serves to maximise natural range of vision by following the shape of the head to create a 100 per cent wider field of view. This, when allied with 3M TrueView technology, creates the optics for precision viewing.

Designed specifically for TIG welding, the G5-02 lens allows wider views but in a slim, lightweight helmet. The curved shape of the welding lens arcs closely around the face to increase peripheral vision, improve overall weight distribution and narrow the profile of the helmet.

In addition to its groundbreaking aesthetic, the Speedglas G5-02 lens also delivers advanced electronics, with four arc sensors that will detect an arc down to an industry-leadingĀ singleĀ amp. This in turn ensures the lens can reliably react to the stable arcs offered by the latest high-end inverter based TIG machines. Furthermore, the G5-02 is suitable across the entire spectrum of arc welding processes.

The thin, flexible construction of the curved glass lens in the G5-02 does not come at the expense of its durability. The auto-darkening lens is certified using the same standardised impact resistance tests used for traditional flat ADLs. As a result, the G5-02 welding lens and protection plate both meet AS/NZS1337.1 standards, meaning they are resistant to high speed particles at up to 45m/s (medium impact).

Finally, the Speedglas G5-02 is Bluetooth enabled, so you can securely pair your smartphone to your welding lens via the 3M connected app. You can then use your phone to program up to four memory modes, each with its own settings for dark shades, sensitivity and delay. The app also lets you record a maintenance log for your helmet, as well as access user manuals and parts lists.
