Anthony Bonanno is the electric vehicle, air conditioning trainer at MTA NSW and takes the driving seat for this week's Turbo Talk.

How did you get started in the industry?

I began in the industry as a driveway attendant at the age of 11 working after school and on weekend at a service station in Leichhardt, Sydney. Then at 15 I began my apprenticeship at Suttons Motors Petersham as a first-year apprentice while also attending Ultimo Technical College.

 What do you do now?

I am currently the Electric Vehicle and Air conditioning trainer for the MTA NSW.

What do you like most about the industry?

My passion for motor vehicles of all variants has given me the springboard to work and play in several different aspects of the industry including , mechanical , electrical and panel repairs, management , motorsport both competing and as a team owner, consulting and advising on both government and industry association honorary positions. Mentoring and management as well rental cars and owning successful businesses. Now of course I have become involved in industry training in an exciting space of change and development which is electric vehicle training. I feel so great to be in this space and able to give back to an industry that has given me so much enjoyment and pleasure over many years.

What you dislike most about the industry?

There is not much I dislike about the industry. However, if I had to pick one thing it would be some people who knock new technology and refuse to embrace change and make themselves open to new methods and welcome the exciting opportunities that await them in that space.

Who do you most admire?

That’s a no brainer. Elon Musk who has become the modern version of Henry Ford. He has revolutionised our industry thinking outside the square and changing it forever.

Cars. Your first, dream and current car?

My First car was an XY Falcon. I really loved that car, great in its day but not by today's standards. Currently I have several different vehicles and motorbike that need TLC. I am restoring them. My favourite will always be my Tesla Roadster. Dream car would be the new Tesla Roadster being released soon.
