The funky looking Renault Twizy city ‘car’ won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for product design.

About the size of a portly red kangaroo and by some accounts as comfortable to ride in, the electric Twizy seats two, in tandem.

Safety features include ‘visible bodywork’ says Renault, but if that doesn’t do the trick, in the case of a head-on collision, both occupants are protected by a deformable structure. The outboard position of the four wheels and the lateral beams located either side of the chassis provide protection should the vehicle be involved in a side-on impact. The safety retention systems include a driver's airbag, a four-point harness at the front and a three-point safety belt at the rear.

Also, since Renault Twizy's occupants are protected and held in place, they are under no requirement to wear any sort of protective gear – a relief as some might feel exposed to ridicule enough driving the Twizy. Although, a motorcycle helmet would at least offer some anonymity.

A reviewer from the UK’s Daily Telegraph comments: “The harsh ride will knock your fillings out."

A lack of windows doesn’t seem ideal for city living either. We can’t see this model being a winner down under.
