The new Certificate IV in Vehicle Loss Assessing is now available for industry evaluation and comment through Manufacturing Skills Australia (MSA).
The qualification will build upon mechanical, paint and panel technical knowledge, seen as critical to inspecting and assessing damaged vehicles. It will also provide a development pathway for those with qualifications in these areas.
The Certificate IV includes literacy, communication and negotiation skills, working with others and within the vehicle insurance industry.
This new qualification aligns with the requirements and expectations of the Vehicle Insurance and Repair Industry Code of Conduct to ensure that trainees have appropriate industry skill and knowledge in order to pursue a loss assessor role in the industry.
Further improvement work on the AUR05 Automotive Industry Retail Service and Repair and AUM08 Automotive Manufacturing Training Packages will be conducted by the new automotive training subsidiary established by MSA.
MSA has now developed a draft constitution for the new body to cement its role in furthering workforce development for the automotive industry.
In addition, first draft materials for AUR05 Training Package updates are now available for comment and feedback MSA’s website at http://www.mskills.com.au/
The drafts completed by MSA will help lift the standard of work outcomes in the outdoor power equipment, bicycles and marine sectors.
In response to extensive industry consultation, individual units for these sectors now include more explicit assessment advice to ensure that trainees are developing the level of skills required by industry in today’s climate.
This includes coverage of skills to work with new technologies and materials and strengthening of skill and knowledge requirements over a variety of equipment types and applications.
Other changes to qualifications in these sectors include additional elective options from other training packages and inclusion of sustainability skills.
MSA said these reflect changes at the policy level and will serve to improve the flexibility of qualifications and start to address current concerns about sustainability and the environmental impact of the automotive industry.
