Power sanding brush
Dry sanding & dust extraction
Leading power tools manufacturer Bosch has released what it calls a 'world first' in power tools technology -- the GEB 1000 CE Power Sanding Brush. Boasting a 1000 Watt motor and up to 10,000rpm, the GEB 1000 CE is a lightweight and nimble power house, ideal for de-rusting, paint and varnish removal, cleaning, welding joints, smoothing, finishing and de-burring. With its unique design and comprehensive list of accessories, the GEB 1000 CE enables tradesmen to penetrate hard-to-reach spaces and narrow angles that would not be possible with grinders and drills with sanding attachments.
Dynabrade
Dynabrade, through Michael Koodak, Suttons Parts and Hamilton Holden produces a full range of dry sanding equipment including orbital sanders and dustless vacuum systems.
Model 10330 is a six inch Dynorbital Supreme random orbital sander ready to hook up to a central vacuum system or shopvac. The sander operates at 10,000 rpm with a 3/16" orbit. Model 10444 has the same specifications as the 10333 but with a 3/32" orbit. Model 10327 has a self-generated basic vacuum unit and also runs at up to 10,000 rpm with a 3/16" orbit. The 10534 Dynalock Dual Action Sander is a six inch combination disc random orbital sander which is able to be hooked up to a central vacuum system or shop dust extraction unit. It operates at 12,000 rpm with a 3/16" orbit.
Dynabrade also makes portable dustless vacuum systems for use with all dry sanders in the company's range. Two sizes are available: the 10-gallon (37.8 litre) system for one-to-two tools and the 17-gallon (64.3 litre) system for use with two-to-four tools. Systems and hose accessories are compatible with other brands of air and electric tools and the system meets and exceeds OSHA requirements for noise level output.

A-Z of dust extraction
Festool Tooltechnic Systems provides an extensive range of dry sanding and dust extraction equipment. Not only can all Festool sanders be hooked up to external dust extraction, but they are actually designed to maximise dust extraction efficiency. As a system provider, Festool points out that dust extraction only works efficiently when all components are designed for it, including sanders, sanding pads, abrasives and dust extractors. The design and quality of all four components contribute to the efficiency of dust extraction in the bodyshop.
Festool offers a wide range of dust extractors from small mobile units for the car detailer to 50 litre capacity dust centres that can be hooked up to Festool boom arms. While centralised units tend to consume a large amount of energy, require engineering work and specialist maintenance, Festool dust extractors, which come with a three-year warranty, are easy to install, can be maintained by the operator and always generate the optimum suction at the workplace compared with centralised systems which vary suction capacity according operation, says the company.
Festool has already converted a number of users of centralised systems to their workplace solution packages. Most had experienced problems with their systems which means all operators have to stop working instead of the problem being localised, says Festool.

Speed-Grip COPY ADDED
Norton produces a range of dry sanding equipment including a full range of Speed-Grip vacuum discs and sheets which perform better and last longer, claims the company. Grit range is from P40 to P1500 in discs and P40 to P600 in vacuum sheets. The benefits of the removal of water from sanding applications are many, says Norton. A healthier work environment with less risk of contamination, reduced clean-up time and the elimination of drying times. Vacuum systems mean less dust inhalation, less risk of dirt in the topcoat and a more consistent finish than wet sanding.
