The Shark 6 is the first plug-in hybrid electric ute (PHEV) to undergo local ANCAP testing and boasts advanced safety features, including cutting-edge driver assistance technology, dual frontal airbags, side chest and head-protecting airbags, and pioneering battery protection. According to BYD, these innovations make it one of the most forward-thinking new energy vehicles on the market.
This milestone finally enables fleet buyers, including government and corporate partners that require a five-star ANCAP rating, to integrate the Shark 6 into their fleets, supporting a shift towards more sustainable operations.
The Shark 6 earned a 95 per cent score for child occupant protection (CPD), a system that alerts if a child is detected inside an unattended vehicle. The CPD system can escalate its intervention, including activating the air-conditioning to cool the car down.
“The ANCAP rating cements BYD’s commitment to providing Australians with high-quality, safe, and sustainable vehicles built for local demands. The Shark 6 delivers on every front,” CEO of vehicle importer EVDirect, David Smitherman, said.
“This recognition underscores BYD’s dedication to safety, innovation, and world-class manufacturing, ensuring our vehicles offer exceptional durability and protection.”
EVDirect claims the Shark 6 is already making a strong impact in Australia and continues to win over drivers – from families to tradespeople and fleet operators – thanks to its versatility, reliability, and cutting-edge technology.
“Named NewsCorp’s 2024 Car of the Year, it’s redefining the next generation of utes and is now backed by a 5-star ANCAP safety rating,” Smitherman said.
